Orange Traffic offers cabinets that are specially designed to provide back-up power to traffic light distribution and control units during power outages. These backup enclosures meet Ministère des Transports du Québec requirements.
Description
Orange Traffic’s back-up cabinet is equipped with 12 V/110 Ah deep-cycle AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) storage batteries that provide 700 watts of power for 4 hours. When power is up, the batteries can be added, removed or replaced without interrupting the site’s operations.
An automatic transfer unit detects power outages and automatically connects the batteries through the uninterruptible power system (UPS). The cabinet is equipped with a NEMA-type twist lock connector plug and a generator connecting cable. A manual switch is used to transfer power to this generator.
A secure current disconnecting switch is installed at the back-up system’s output. It cuts the current from the traffic light control unit to make it safe to work on the unit.
Finally, the back-up enclosure is equipped with a load-balancing module and a device that protects the batteries from short circuits. It is heated by means of a mat system running under the batteries. Heating is deactivated the second the backup enclosure takes over to send 100% of the power to the traffic lights.
The backup traffic light enclosure can be mounted on a base or to a pole.
